Individual Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteer opportunities at St. Christopher’s are available for people over the age of 16, including college students considering careers in special needs and seeking first-hand experience, high school students looking for meaningful opportunities to complete community service for graduation, as well as busy professionals looking to give back to their community.
Mentoring is an opportunity for you to develop a long-term, one-on-one relationship with a youth who is in need of a role model, friend, and caring adult.
Minimum age for a mentor is 21. Mentors are expected to spend approximately 4 hours per month with their men-tee for at least one year. Mentors are matched with youth based on common interests, compatibility, geographic proximity, and youth needs.
Before becoming a mentor, here are a few things to understand about the role of mentoring. Most of us have had a teacher, supervisor, or coach who has been a mentor to us and made a positive difference in our lives. These people served as role models, cheerleaders, advocated, and friends. Mentors assume these different roles and share some basic qualities:
- A sincere desire to be involved with a young person
- Respect for young people
- Active listening skills
- Ability to see solutions and opportunities
Want to make an impact on a youth’s life, but stay behind the scenes?
We welcome In-Kind Donations (toys, household goods, furniture, appliances, clothes) that can make a real difference to a resident who has very little.
Often, in-kind donations make it possible for a resident to have a warm coat during the winter or new school supplies in September.
Group & Corporate Volunteers
St. Christopher’s offers many programs to suit a variety of interests, ages, and availability so that organizations can volunteer together.
Volunteers from our corporate partners are invited to conduct volunteer days to help maintain, beautify, and refurbish our campuses. We work with you to arrange something meaningful for your employees.
Your organization may adopt and fund one of our programs.
