St. Christopher’s Dobbs Ferry location continues to serve a co-ed population, but the campus layout has been re-designed to accommodate varying gender-specific and therapeutic needs. A strong community service and athletics program have become signatures of the campuses therapeutic environment. Youth are given the opportunity to participate in a robust and varied program that inspires individual development while providing fellowship among peers. Sports programs include flag football, basketball, track, and volleyball with participation in a co-ed inter-residential agency league, community athletic league, as well as a neighboring high-school sports team. Activities offered at the local YMCA, a martial arts program, cheerleading, and creative writing/art provide daily outlets and inspire healthy living. Our partnerships with local businesses afford youth to practice relationship building skills, volunteering, as well as gain actual employment.
These activities are supported by our Clinicians who utilize cognitive behavioral and other evidenced-based approaches to treat the problematic behaviors and the mental health issues presented by our youth. Daily cottage based residential groups allow youngsters to set goals for themselves and provides an ongoing forum for discussion and problem-solving / social skill development. Unifying these approaches is a behaviorally oriented level system which supports individual positive change and growth.
With support and assistance from our educational partner – the GNC school district- planning for transition home or independence starts at day one. The treatment team builds linkages within the home communities of our youngsters and helps to foster successful outcomes by maintaining contact after discharge.
